| moonwalking bird |
[08 Jul 2008|11:55pm] |
I am watching the Best of Nature on Netflix, and they showed this amazing little bird. The mannikin is pretty unremarkable except for it's mating dance... it moonwalks! I checked the tags and didn't see it.
(Ignore the people talking and laughing, it's pretty obnoxious.)
This is from Encyclopedia Britannica:
Mannikins are finchlike birds, mostly brownish and often with black throats and fine barring. Large flocks occur in open country from Africa to Australia. Many are popular cage birds. The 9-centimetre (3.5-inch) bronze mannikin (L. cucullata) has large communal roosts in Africa; it has been introduced into Puerto Rico, where it is called hooded weaver. Abundant in southern Asia are the nutmeg mannikin (L. punctulata), also called spice finch or spotted munia, and the striated mannikin (L. striata), also called white-backed munia. The former is established in Hawaii, where it is called ricebird. A domestic strain of the latter is called Bengal finch.

Or an old one in new positions? Watch this video and tell me what you think! I realize it's a myspace video so how much credit you give is entirely up to you. However, I think it's worth a quick look at least. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=37523121
I don't know how many of us have heard of the Colossal Squid, but some information is under the cut. Here's a link to the Shell Purdido Project, which is how this footage was recorded. http://www.shell.com/home/content/aboutshell/our_strategy/major_projects_2/perdido/perdido_13032008.html

| Tree spirit |
[09 Jul 2008|09:46am] |
The first thing I thought was, "It's Jesus," LOL. A commenter on the story apparently thought the same thing. %^)

Meet the tree with a faceIs it a demon? A new Doctor Who monster? A bit of rubbish art? No, it's a section of an oak tree branch that looks like a human face. Sort of.
The face-tree was brought into the Daily Times newspaper in Maryville, Tennessee on Monday, by Ernest Ward, a groundskeeper at the local Magnolia Cemetery.
Ward said it was found on Monday as he and co-workers cleaned up debris from a weekend storm.
According to him, a former worker at the cemetery believes the face is a spirit.

leah;18;AL. just graduated high school in may, and i'll be moving into a tiny dorm with one roomie in less than 50 days (: [only like 15 minutes away] but this is my room at home, which i love to pieces. unfortunately it's not very neat or chic like most of the lovely, beautiful rooms here, but what can i say (: it's very teen i guess. anyways i give you MY ROOM.

( it really is referred to as the batcave. )
i hope you enjoy my insanophile room as much as i do (: you'll probably see me in a few months with my dorm room.
i do have a question; i love all you guys with the polaroid pictures, where can i find a instant camera like that? i know they've discontinued the film so the ones i've seen are all really expensive. just wondering.

Hello! My name is Maria and I'm 19, turning 20 next month. :]
I posted probably a few months ago, but my room has undergone many changes since. I am an artist and crafter, so I pretty much HORDE everything haha, which explains my crazy amount of possessions. The only thing I need to do now is make some curtains. What kind of curtains do you think I should go with? White, frilly? Burgundy? Anyway, here it is:

Mackerel bait ball and the hunters, Wild Coast, South Africa

Nikon D300 + Nikkor 12-24mm, strobes Sea&Sea YS-250 x 2
So what Sardine Run is all about ? It is huge school of sardines, some estimate 15 km long, migrating along Wild Coast every year at winter for the reasons not completely understood by science yet. ( Read more... )

I'm pretty new to photography. Until about a year ago I had very little interest in it at all, but I've found that I enjoy it quite a bit. Last weekend I took some photos in the East side industrial district in Portland, OR. ( Read more... )
